As Donald Trump prepares for life outside the White House, the 45th President of the United States is eager to shape his legacy, no matter how many wild claims are required.
In calling Fox News, the president touted the upcoming coronavirus vaccines, tried to paint an optimistic picture of the country’s pandemic response, lamented that the country’s legal system rejected its many electoral challenges, and continued to make discredited claims of widespread voter fraud. and electoral manipulation.
In a characteristically vague spiel, Trump said he was called “by the greatest political folks” on election night to congratulate him on winning “but then they made landfills, they call them landfills, big massive landfills in Michigan, in Pennsylvania … all finished, ”he said.
On election night, Trump had an advantage in a handful of states, but as votes were counted, including postal ballots, Democrat Joe Biden stepped forward and ultimately won. Given the nature of the vote count and Trump’s constant criticism of voting by mail, it was a scenario that was widely predicted before the election and is often referred to as the ‘red mirage’ or ‘the blue shift.’
Trump said he will not cease his unsuccessful attempts to challenge the election result in battle states.
Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo opened the interview parroting Trump’s unsubstantiated claims of a rigged election saying “the facts are on his side.”
Trump launched a lengthy monologue while sowing confusion and misinformation: “First, the world is watching and no one can believe what they are saying,” he said.
The president claimed that world leaders had called him to tell him “that was the most disorderly election I have ever seen.”
Despite the exception of some notable autocrats, Democratic leaders around the world have unanimously called out Joe Biden to congratulate him on his victory.
The president went on to reiterate a series of wild claims about “affidavits from individuals” and unreliable voting machines with “glitches” that he claimed moved votes from “my account to Biden’s account.”
The glitches conspiracy stems from a bogus report posted online attributed to polling firm Edison Research. The company was quick to deny that it had produced such a report.
Among the other already discredited claims pushed by the president were that deceased individuals were soliciting and casting votes and that they were not allowed to have poll watchers in Pennsylvania, both false.
The president lashed out at big tech, the media, and at one point suggested that the Justice Department and the FBI were involved in the elaborate fraud conspiracy against him.
Later in the interview, Trump said the United States is doing better than Europe and “better than the rest of the world” when it comes to the coronavirus pandemic. His comments came as the United States hit a record high in hospitalizations and the nation’s leading infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, warned of an “increase after increase” in infections across the country.
‘This is propaganda’: fierce response to interview
Trump’s firing of US authorities, who said the elections were “the safest in history,” has forced the US media to become increasingly harsh in their tone, as the interview was met with harsh criticism by part of the mainstream media outside of Fox News.
Maria Bartiromo of Fox News gave Trump his first television interview since the election. It was full of lies, ”read the CNN headline.
USA Today was equally admonishing in its coverage of the interview, highlighting comments referring to Bartiromo as a propagandist.
“In the 46-minute telephone interview, Trump continued to protest the election, but did not provide evidence, and did not say when he could abandon the electoral demands and challenges that have found nothing but defeat,” he reported.
“Maria got involved in at least three different conspiracies,” wrote journalist Amanda Carpenter and author of ‘Gaslighting America: Why We Love It When Trump Lies To Us.’
“She is very far from the depths. This is not a Trump problem, it is a Fox problem, ”he said.
“This is propaganda.”
Journalist and New York Magazine contributor Yashar Ali said the interview was filled with so many lies and misinformation, “probably more than any interview during his presidency.”
Meanwhile, others went to great lengths to point out that Trump’s sweeping claims hardly resemble what his lawyers argue in court.

Biden gets more votes in Wisconsin tally
Justices, including notable conservatives, have rejected lawsuits and challenges in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, Georgia and Nevada, citing a lack of “specific allegations and then evidence.”
While the president and his allies make bold claims of widespread fraud, in court the claims of their attorneys tend to focus on the legal technicalities related to pre-election voting changes and the technicalities related to post-election audits.
As of this writing, Trump and Republican allies have failed 39 court appeals.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin finished a recount of its presidential results on Sunday (local time) confirming Biden’s victory.
In the two counties where Trump paid $ 3 million for a recount, the results barely changed Biden’s margin of victory of about 20,600 votes, giving him a gain of 87 votes.
