About 70 clandestine burial graves were found at the Humera airport facility in the Tigray region, the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) said on Sunday.
The grave where the bodies were buried was found in the thickly grassy southern part of the airport facility, according to EBC.
An unnamed officer in a military uniform called it “a sad and terrible discovery.” He added that new bodies are discovered every day and that the work will continue.
The official indicated that the forces of the closure of the Tigray Liberation Front (TPLF) had committed crimes against people who opposed the illegal occupation of the area by the TPLF. Humera, located in the extreme northwest of the country, was taken out of Gondar’s control by the TPLF in 1992, according to those who long questioned the measure.
The federal army, fighting forces loyal to the TPLF, released Humera on November 12 after heavy fighting in the early days of the conflict.
