Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t think David de Gea and Alex Telles will be offside for long after both players were hit in Manchester United’s win against Southampton.

The Red Devils fell two goals behind at St Mary’s on Sunday, and De Gea was injured while trying to avoid James Ward-Prowse’s brilliant free kick, which crashed into the post.

He had to be replaced at halftime by Dean Henderson, although United managed to mount a comeback in the match even without their usual number one, as a hit from Bruno Fernandes and a double from Edinson Cavani secured a 3-2 win.

Midway through the second half, Telles also had to limp out of the bout, replaced by Brandon Williams, though Solskjaer hopes none of his players will be out of action for long.

“It is a hit just above the knee, so tomorrow we will scan it and control it,” Solskjaer said when asked about De Gea at his post-match press conference.

“Hopefully it’s ready by Wednesday, but I can’t promise you anything right now.”

On Telles he added: ‘Alex had a problem towards the end, but I hope it’s not that bad.’

That duo isn’t the only injury headaches Solskjaer has, with players like Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw missing the trip to Southampton, but all are close to making a comeback.

“We hope that Paul and Scott can start training with us tomorrow, I don’t know, but hopefully,” Solskjaer continued.

I think Luke is still out. We are not 100% sure. Jesse [Lingard] it’s back. Phil Jones is out. David, I don’t know how he will react to these blows and hopefully that’s it. ‘

On how Henderson performed after replacing De Gea, he added: ‘Dean came in, very confident, he had a pair of saves to make, but he was neat and safe with the ball at his feet as well.
