ADDIS ABABA – The people of Tigray in Mai Kadra have demonstrated Ethiopia’s culture of sympathy when they safeguarded some civilians who were attacked during the recent massacre that claimed hundreds of innocent lives in the area, opposition political parties TDP and EZEMA said .
Tigray Democratic Party (TDP) general secretary Gidena Medhin told the Addis Zemen Amharic Daily that Ethiopians have developed the culture of coexistence for years until the junta came to power to intentionally erode this culture.
But the Tigrians living in Maikadra have thwarted the junta’s evil intentions by rescuing many people who were hiding them in their homes, he said.
Like many Ethiopians, the people of Tigray are hospitable and understanding and have saved some victims hidden in their residence, he noted.
He mentioned that the People are also providing care and support to the victims of the war in the cities of Shire and Axum.
He also called on the Tigray Special Forces to refrain from shooting civilians to be free from legal and moral charges.
In recent years, the junta has committed several murders in the country to create conflict and resentment among the people, he added.
Meanwhile, the Ethiopian Citizens for Social Justice Party (EZEMA) also revealed that the junta has been committing similar attacks against the people.
National Party Executive Eyob Mesafint told EPA that the junta has committed serious genocidal crimes against the people of Tigray since the day it embarked on the armed struggle.
He called on the government to intensify and end the police operation shortly to stop more killings of civilians.
Eyob urged that all those who participated in the massacre must be brought before a court of law to prevent such dire incidents from being committed in the future.
He called on the government to take the necessary precautions to maintain the safety of civilians in the operation.
