CAIRO – November 28, 2020: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi headed to South Sudan’s capital Juba on Saturday to meet with his counterpart Salva Kiir.
Presidential spokesman Ambassador Bassam Rady noted that Sisi’s first visit to South Sudan aims to discuss joint cooperation between the two countries and ways to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly at the economic and development levels.
Both leaders will also discuss key political developments in the region and Africa.
In October, the Prime Minister of Egypt, Moustafa Madbouly, agreed with the Minister of Irrigation of South Sudan, Manawa Peter, the formation of a joint high committee and to begin coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to hold the first meeting of the committee. in Cairo before the end of the year.
Madbouly met with Minister Manawa Peter and his accompanying delegation in Cairo on Monday with the participation of Egypt’s Minister of Irrigation, Mohamed Abdel Atty.
The Cabinet spokesman, Nader Saad, explained that the meeting addressed the relations between the two countries and the ways to promote them at different levels.
The Prime Minister of Egypt said that Cairo is ready to launch investment projects in South Sudan, especially focusing on issues of mutual priority.
The South Sudanese minister thanked Madbouly for Egypt’s supportive stance during the floods and torrent crisis. He pointed to the Egyptian air aid bridge carrying important aid at that vital time.
Peter emphasized that Egypt’s stance was neither new nor surprising, in light of the strong relations between the two peoples in Egypt and South Sudan.
The irrigation minister of South Sudan stated that his country is interested in boosting relations with Egypt in different aspects of life and in increasing investments and mutual projects in agriculture, irrigation, electricity and other areas of infrastructure.
The minister also expressed South Sudan’s hope to speed up the opening of a branch of an Egyptian bank in his country, such as the National Bank of Egypt, for example, according to Saad.
