Maritzburg United have appointed former Bafana international Bafana Delron Buckley as interim coach following the firing of Eric Tinkler.
The 42-year-old will transition from assistant coach to interim coach role after the Team of Choice parted ways with Tinkler on Monday.
The Team of Choice will hope that Buckley’s appointment will restore confidence on the training ground and will pay particular attention to the mentality of the players as they prepare for their next DStv Premiership clash against SuperSport United at Harry Gwala. Stadium on Friday.
“It’s a normal situation when a coach leaves, the players start thinking about what’s going to happen,” Buckley told his club’s official website.
“For me, now as interim coach, I have to boost the morale of the players. Motivate them and prepare them for the game on Friday.
“It is up to the players to take matters into their own hands,” he continued.
‘It’s a game of life and death and the moment they step foot on the field, they have to realize that if we are going to win, we will have to be aggressive and challenge every ball.
“Sometimes when things get tough, you can’t play nice football. You have to play in the ugliest way to win games. ‘
