Before the Ethiopian army moved to the city of Mekele, the capital of the Tigray region, in less than 60 hours, an Ethiopian official advised the inhabitants of the city to follow the example of other cities in Tigray completely liberated from the TPLF in recent days.

“The beginning of the end is within reach as our defense forces approach the city … Now it is easy to target any military installation, which is hidden anywhere … The people of Mekele must understand that it is time. to say enough. enough for the TPLF gang to save their lives, to save their city, ”said Ambassador Redwan Hussein, spokesman for the command post in the Tigray region, which has been in a state of emergency for the past few weeks.

Citing as examples how TPLF militias have razed Axum International Airport when forced to leave the city a few days ago, Ambassador Redwan stated that TPLF forces are trying to hide in schools, universities, mosques and churches in Mekele and they are reckless and it doesn’t matter if these public properties of holy places are destroyed.

He urged the inhabitants of the city of Mekele to isolate themselves from the TPLF fighters and collaborate with the Ethiopian defense forces, as well as to surrender the leaders and fighters of the TPLF when they can, “like people from other cities in the Tigray liberated by the Ethiopian federal army in recent days has done so ”. “The people of Mekele would have several options to collaborate with our defense forces … By collaborating we can save the city,” he said, noting that they can also stay away from the TPLF military installation areas.

Commenting on the African Union plan to peacefully mediate and end the current military operation, Ambassador Redwan said that the Ethiopian government is ready to receive the envoy that the current AU President and the President of South Africa Cyyril Ramphosa will send as a matter of respect to the AU. He said the government is open to any discussion that brings lasting peace, which does not include fugitives from the TPLF.
