Apple’s iPad comes in four versions, the entry-level iPad, the small iPad mini, the recently updated iPad Air, and the definitive model, the iPad Pro, which comes in two sizes. They are all exceptionally good gifts, even to you.
For this Black Friday iPad roundup, I’ve evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of each tablet and found discounted deals. I’ll be updating the offers, so check back. Many are live now, others won’t start until Wednesday, November 25, and more will land on Black Friday, November 27. I will add them as soon as they are confirmed.
The iPad range, unlike those of rival manufacturers, is available with Wi-Fi or more cellular Wi-Fi configurations, where the latter includes a SIM card slot so you can log onto the Internet from anywhere. This costs $ 100 more, and for many people, connecting to their phone’s wi-fi hotspot is just as good.
All iPads have a great battery life, 10 hours or more, and the most recent software updates have brought the tablet much closer to being a replacement laptop; all except the mini are compatible with Apple keyboard accessories.

This is the entry-level iPad, but if you think it sounds like it’s somehow lacking, think again. The processor isn’t as fast as the Air or Pro models, but for most people this iPad is pretty fast. The design is sleek and elegant with a glass front and aluminum back, and the bezels around the display are narrow. That’s aside from the base, where the Touch ID fingerprint sensor takes up some space.
For most people, this tablet is powerful and effective enough and in fact it is way ahead of most of the competition.
There is a rear camera, which is the case with all iPads except the Pro models. It is an 8MP sensor and the front camera is a lower resolution 1.2MP model. Until two years ago, the base model iPad always had a 9.7-inch screen. Now, it has been upgraded to 10.2 inches. The range of applications, more than a million, all designed for the big screen of the iPad, means that there is something for everyone.
Note that the 2020 iPad is the 8th generation model, although last year’s 7th generation version is still available.

If you want nothing but the best, this is it. The Pro has the best design and specs, although the iPad Air processor is faster, there are other considerations like graphics processing where the Pro excels. Instead of a fingerprint sensor, the Pro has the same Face ID system as the latest iPhones. The twin rear cameras (one 12MP wide and one 10MP ultrawide) are complemented by a LiDAR scanner designed to capture depth information quickly. That is something that is useful for photography and augmented reality functions.
The iPad Pro is fast, powerful and delicious – the best tablet for the most demanding users.

If space is a luxury or you want something smaller and lighter, the mini is ideal. It has the highest resolution screen of any iPad. In most other respects, however, it works in exactly the same way as the larger iPad, albeit with higher storage capacities. Like any other iPad, the mini is compatible with the Apple Pencil (the first generation model) but not with the keyboard accessories that Apple makes. The mini needs to be updated, which last happened in 2019, and is expected next year.
