Timing his run to perfection, the 26-year-old Kosgei crossed the line in 2:14:04, erasing Paula radcliffeThe 16-year-old record that stood at 2: 15.25.
In Chicago, while Ababel Yeshaneh could only see Kosgei race to the title in record time, the Ethiopian made sure to be on top when the two met in the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon early this year.
In the Emirates, Ababel Yeshaneh was the champion in 1:04:31 while Kosgei won the silver medal in 1:04:49.
In her most recent outings, Brigid Kosgei has continued her good form after the forced breakout of COVID-19, but 29-year-old Ababel Yeshaneh has not been so lucky.
Kosgei held her London marathon title in the rescheduled race, while Yeshaneh had a difficult outing in the World Championships in Athletics Half Marathon In Poland. Although she suffered a fall with just over two miles to go, the Ethiopian did enough to finish fifth.
The 2020 edition of the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon will take place amid tighter restrictions and only the elite group will run the race in the capital city.
