Ethiopia (MNN) – On Tuesday afternoon, a explosion shook the capital of Ethiopia’s Tigray province, killing two civilians and wounding many more.
It’s another tragedy in the civil war that has exploded in Ethiopia. Forces loyal to the central government clash with those loyal to local leaders in the Tigray region in the north of the country. Hundreds have reportedly died in the conflict.
Tensions between Tigray and the central government escalated in June when the government delayed an election due to COVID-19. In response to violence, more 27,000 people they have fled across the border to Sudan.
Peter, a Christian worker with World concern, works in Somalia, and explains the situation he is seeing. “As we speak now, the great conflict continues. It hasn’t affected Somalia much yet. But we are seeing perhaps the ripple effects. Some imports, like most of the vegetables that are depended on in Somalia, where we are, come from Ethiopia ”.
World Concern’s work
Somalia itself is fighting unrest, especially sparked by the al-Shabaab group, which has terrorized the country since 2006.
World Concern works with people in extreme poverty or need. In many places like Somalia, Peter says, they cannot openly evangelize. “Even without talking about our faith or even Christ, the work we do has been able to speak a lot about the God we serve. And for me, that has been the turning point in service on this earth. [We are] restricted, unable to speak of faith. But the works we are engaged in say a lot about the faith we defend. “
Pray that many will see God’s love reflected through the work of World Concern. And pray for the civil war in Ethiopia to end soon and for a stable and lasting peace to return to the region.
