NEW YORK: The popular Fortnite video game could be restored to Apple’s mobile devices via a game program running in a browser, allowing it to evade an Apple ban amid a dispute over fees, the BBC reported .
Apple pulled Fortnite from its App Store on August 13 after Fortnite developer Epic Games released an update that dodges revenue sharing with the iPhone maker, and the companies are now locked in a legal battle.
Now, Silicon Valley tech company Nvidia has developed a version of its GEForce Now cloud gaming service that runs on Apple’s Safari browser, which could offer Fortnite to Apple users, the BBC said.
Nvidia could announce the Fortnite offering on the platform before winter break, according to the report, adding that it was possible that the game could still be excluded from Apple devices.
Epic and Apple are fighting over whether Apple’s tight control over the App Store and its 30 percent cut in revenue counts as monopoly behavior. A trial to resolve the dispute is not expected until next year.
Nvidia declined to confirm whether Fortnite would soon be available on Apple mobile devices. The game is now available on Apple laptops through the Nvidia system.
“Nvidia does not comment on the arrival of new customers to the service, nor on the availability of any games on unannounced or previously unreleased platforms,” said a spokesperson.
“Fortnite is not confirmed for GeForce NOW on platforms beyond PC, Mac, and Android.”
Epic Games also declined to comment, while Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Meet the new iPhones
Apple, in its virtual event ‘Hi, Speed’, presented four new iPhones equipped with technology to support the new 5G wireless networks.
In addition to the new iPhone 12 variants, priced between $ 700 and $ 1,100, the Cupertino-based tech giant also released a smaller, cheaper version of its HomePod speaker.
Apple also said that it will not include headphones or power adapters with the newer iPhones, as most customers already have them. That will reduce manufacturing and make the boxes lighter to ship.
The company’s chief of environmental policy, Lisa Jackson, said the move was part of Apple’s efforts “to reduce waste and use fewer materials.”
iPhone 12
Apple’s iPhone 12, successor to the best-selling iPhone 11, comes with a 6.1-inch screen. The smartphone will feature Apple’s A14 Bionic processor with a dual camera, using what the company called “computational photography” or digital technology to obtain the best images in all conditions.
The tech giant said the iPhone 12 will use a “smart data mode” that will assess 5G needs and balance speed and battery life automatically.
The iPhone 12, available in 5 colors: black, white, red, green and blue, will be priced at Rs 79,900. It will be on sale from October 30.
iPhone 12 Mini
The iPhone 12 Mini, which Apple calls “the world’s smallest, thinnest, and lightest 5G smartphone,” comes with a 5.4-inch screen. It has Apple’s “Super Retina XDR” display for color management, water resistance, and wireless charging.
The device will come in five color options and packs the latest Bionic A15 and iOS 14. Priced at Rs 69,900, it will be available on Apple.com and through Apple Authorized Resellers from October 30.
iPhone 12 Pro
Apple also released two Pro models of the iPhone. While the iPhone 12 Pro has a 6.5-inch screen, the Pro Max features a 6.7-inch Retina display. Both are powered by the A14 Bionic chipset and come with the deep fusion chamber feature.
IPhone 12 Pro includes a seven-element lens with an ultra-wide angle feature that provides a 120-degree field of view, along with a 52mm focal length telephoto lens. The iPhone 12 Pro will be able to record videos in Dolby Vision HDR and also edit in the Photos application itself.
The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will be available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB models in Graphite, Silver, Gold, and Pacific Blue starting at Rs 119,900 and Rs 129,900, respectively, starting on October 30.
HomePod Mini
Apple also announced a HomePod Mini smart speaker to take on similar offerings from Amazon and Google.
The smart speaker comes with an intercom feature that allows you to send a message from one HomePod to another. The feature also works with iPhones, iPad, and Apple Watch.
