UNITED NATIONS, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday expressed grave concern over reports of inter-community violence and attacks on civilians in Ethiopia, which have caused many casualties, his spokesman said.
Guterres expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice, Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson, said in a statement.
The secretary general called on all stakeholders to take urgent action to defuse tensions in the country and resolve challenges through an inclusive and peaceful dialogue, the statement said.
Guterres reiterated the United Nations commitment to support the government in its efforts to ensure a stable and prosperous Ethiopia, which will further strengthen peace and sustainable development in the Horn of Africa, he said.
An armed attack in Ethiopia’s Oromia regional state on Sunday killed at least 32 people, the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission said on Monday.
The assailants targeted the Amhara ethnic group, who were taken from their homes and taken to a school, where they were killed, the commission said. Final product
