Now a PlayStation Plus title.

Sony has delayed the release of the PlayStation 5 title, Destruction AllStars, just a few weeks before the console’s launch.

The action racing game will ship alongside the PS5 on November 12, 2020. It will now launch sometime in February 2021, when it will ship for two months on PlayStation Plus, said Sony’s director of product development Pete. Smith, in a post on the PlayStation Blog.

“Destruction AllStars is a multiplayer game that is at its best when you compete with online players from around the world,” said Smith.

“We want as many people as possible to experience mayhem on PS5, and what better way to do that than to bring the game to our PlayStation Plus members?

“Next week, we’ll be back with a new trailer and more details about the game, so you know exactly what to expect when you download it in February.

“This may be disappointing news for some of you who were looking to play the game at launch, but we hope you understand the decision.”

Pre-orders will be refunded, Smith added.

Destruction AllStars is something of a Rocket League without the ball experience, with a hint of Destruction Derby included. Vehicle-based combat takes place in arenas all over the world.

It’s the work of Liverpool-based studio Lucid Games, which was formed from the ashes of Metropolis Street Racer, Project Gotham Racing, and developer Blur Bizarre Creations. Lucid is perhaps best known for developing Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions, but the team behind Destruction AllStars has many of the key people who worked on WipEout before Sony shut down its developer Sony Liverpool in August 2012.

The delay thins out the launch lineup for the first part of the PS5, which now includes Demon’s Souls, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure.
