Africa: deaths from Covid-19 exceed 41,000

As of October 25, confirmed Covid-19 cases in 55 African countries have reached 1,709,387. Reported deaths in Africa have reached 41,144 and recoveries to 1,397,522.

South Africa has the highest number of reported cases: 714,246, with 18,843 deaths. Other countries most affected are Morocco (194,461), Egypt (106,397), Ethiopia (92,858), Nigeria (61,930) and Algeria (55,880).

The numbers are compiled by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) (world map) using statistics from the World Health Organization and other international institutions, as well as national and regional public health departments.
