Microsoft Teams has added a ton of great new features, as it seems to beat Zoom in the video conferencing space.
What’s new?
First of all, there’s a great new feature that could transform your video calling experience: Microsoft is adding AI-based noise suppression to Teams starting in November of this year.
According to Windows Latest, which first reported on the feature, the new Teams functionality will use the company’s artificial intelligence technology to reduce background noise in meetings. To do this, it analyzes the video stream and reduces sounds produced in the background. Examples of the type of noise it can pick up and block include fans, pens clicking, or problems with the microphone.
The “High” settings part of the feature is an update to current functionality to give people more noise suppression if they need it, Microsoft said. Hopefully this also means that the feature will detect barking dogs or noisy children, which is never ideal when on a work or business call.
The update to the Teams noise suppression feature will begin rolling out to Microsoft’s Windows 10, 8.1, and 7 desktops in November. It is unknown if this feature could make its way to the Teams apps for Android and iOS.
Meanwhile, as OnMsft reported, a new Microsoft Teams desktop update just added two features: full screen mode and the ability for meeting organizers to view and manage meeting options directly in the new meeting experience. .
Privacy and productivity for Teams on iOS
For those who use Teams on iOS, Microsoft has added new features to help boost your productivity and privacy. On the privacy front, Microsoft protects your sensitive data by stopping message previews through its Intune device management platform.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has also added natural language support for when searching for messages, spelling suggestions, and caller ID for voicemail messages. Also, call controls will always be displayed on the screen with more options on your iPad.
Teams V Zoom: Which is better?
Microsoft Teams has been adding a wave of new features in recent months, as it appears to beat the biggest rival Zoom. These include the ability to add a custom background and the Together Mode to make the video conferencing experience as close to real life as possible.
Like Teams, Zoom also offers noise cancellation. So far, probably the differentiating feature of Teams has been its integration with other Microsoft products through its Advanced Communications offering. Teams is not just a video conferencing service, it is a collaboration tool.
But Zoom is fighting back. It recently released a major update to compete with this, including Zapps, which connects apps directly within Zoom. Fundamentally, it is also beginning to implement the gold standard of security: end-to-end encryption. Teams doesn’t have this yet.
Choosing Teams or Zoom is tricky. Teams currently outperforms it on the Microsoft integration side, which will influence some individuals and companies. One thing is for sure: The video conferencing battle is escalating and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
