The debut of a new phone usually means another new JerryRigEverything torture test, and that’s the case with the OnePlus 8T. JerryRigEverything’s Zack has already grabbed a few picks and blades for the latest OnePlus flagship, and it’s doing just as well as you’d expect.
In regards to the durability testing of JerryRigEverything, this OP8T test was conducted as regularly as possible. As usual, the screen is scratched at a Mohs level 6, “with deeper grooves at a level 7.” The chassis and buttons are all metal, although the same can’t be said for the speaker grill on top (it’s plastic). The SIM tray is revealed to be sealed against water, which makes sense. Zack notes that the fingerprint sensor often did not want to recognize his fingerprints, even though the part of the screen under which the sensor is located was not scratched.
The video ends with a relatively successful burnout and flex testing; the chassis has some flex, but nothing will crack or kink. The 8T has been observed several times to be a good phone, but there is nothing worth upgrading if you already have the 8; this seems to be the case with most OnePlus-T phones. Teardown video
Zack has now posted a teardown video for the OnePlus 8T, giving us a good look at what’s under the outer shell. The new video shows the two battery cells combined, each with a capacity of 2200m-2250mAh, allowing the phone’s 60W wired charging to work. This was not a secret, but it is interesting to see it in person.
The rest of the teardown isn’t too bumpy, except that the OnePlus 8T uses a lot of thermal paste around the motherboard, battery, and camera modules. The paste, along with the vapor chamber cooling system, should help keep the phone at safer temperatures for longer periods.
