Following record searches for “how to vote” this election season, Google enabled new features that make it easy to get answers on when, where and how to cast your vote.
Starting Friday, when you ask certain election-related questions in Google Search or Maps, you will be presented with specific details of the location of the Voting Information Project, a non-partisan nonprofit led by Democracy Works and state election officials. .
Searches such as “Early Voting Locations” and “Voting Boxes Near Me” will activate the new feature that not only answers your inquiry, but also provides professional advice and links you to other resources on registering, requesting ballots at absence and understand important deadlines. Whether you plan to vote by mail, vote early, or vote in person on Election Day, you’ll get answers.
The tech company also revealed that some new features won’t be limited to Google Search and Maps. Soon, although we’re not told exactly when, Google Assistant will also be able to get polling location information on any Assistant-enabled device with a simple question like “Ok Google, where do I vote?”
Once you have selected a polling site, either through Google Search or the Google Assistant, you will be redirected to Maps for voting instructions and times.
The election is only a couple of weeks away and if you don’t have a voting plan yet, let this be the kick in the pants you need. Seriously. You hardly have to lift a finger.
