The founder and owner of Feteh magazine, Temesgen Desalegne, is reportedly detained in the capital Addis Ababa. Citizen reports on social media indicate that he was arrested at around 2pm local time on Wednesday.

He was not in the office when security forces showed up to arrest him. After the security forces spoke with him by phone, he arrived at the office shortly after and the police, whose number was not specified, took him away.

His parents have confirmed that Temesgen was detained Wednesday afternoon.

It had been for several years under the government dominated by the TPLF. He was released as part of the government’s decision to “expand political space” and release political prisoners after a widespread protest between 2016 and 2018 that led to a new government under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed from within the defunct ruling coalition: Ethiopia. Revolutionary Democratic Front – (EPRDF).

At the time of this writing, the police did not reveal why Temesgen was arrested.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government is losing ground among a sizable portion of its support base, Ethiopians with a dislike for ethnic politics, to revert to what appears to be a heavy-handed policy.

Eskinder Nega and Lidetu Ayalew, both politicians, are arrested in the violence that followed the death of Hachalu Hundessa in early July 2020.
