Xiaomi is introducing Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology to help users easily connect their smartphones to nearby devices. To connect smart phones and devices, Xiaomi customized the Mi 10 series and some of its smart home devices by including antennas and a built-in UWB chipset, while using a specialized antenna design and in-house developed algorithms.

Device discovery

UWB, which stands for Ultra Wide Band, is the next generation of ultra-precise positioning connection technology. A smartphone compatible with Xiaomi’s UWB technology can locate smart devices with centimeter precision. It detects spatial positioning just like the human eye and can pinpoint the location of any smart device with three-degree angle measurement accuracy, similar to indoor GPS.

Smartphones and smart devices need embedded UWB chips and array antennas to achieve this. Xiaomi said its UWB has an ultra-wide bandwidth of 500Mhz to transmit information and improve positioning accuracy, a technology used in radars.

In addition, Xiaomi UWB technology provides a high level of security performance thanks to its ultra-wideband and narrow pulse characteristics, which makes its signals extremely difficult to intercept in space, the company said. At the same time, it is equipped with the Xiaomi distance algorithm for precision.
