Report: Take-Two Interactive Acquires “Crackdown 2” Developer Ruffian Games

Take-Two Interactiveis (NASDAQ: TTWO) Rockstar Games’ key subsidiary has made an acquisition across the Atlantic Ocean. According to a report from TheGamer.com citing regulatory documents, Rockstar bought video game developer Ruffian Games and rebranded it Rockstar Dundee. The name derives from Dundee, the Scottish city where the unit is based.

Take-Two / Rockstar is well acquainted with their new unit. Under its old name, the developer had collaborated with Americans over the past year on various titles, including recent versions of the popular Grand Theft Auto. Since it was a private and independent company, Ruffian Games did not disclose its finances.

Terms of the acquisition have not yet been made public. How much Take-Two has paid for the Scottish business is unknown. In fact, Take-Two has not made any statement on the acquisition. The Rockstar website only refers to operations in New York; London; Paris; and Bogotá, Colombia, today. Similarly, Ruffian Games has not made any official comment on the deal.

The Scottish developer was founded in 2008 and has worked on various video games, including the Xbox first-person shooter. Repression 2 (released in 2010) being one of its best known titles.

Encouraged by a strong gaming lineup and an audience spending much more time at home due to the coronavirus pandemic, Take-Two has performed well on both fundamentals and share prices over the past few months. On Monday, Take-Two shares rose 3.4%, beating the broader stock market.
