Apple’s fall product launch this year is expected to trigger a wave of upgrade purchases, analysts say, with fans watching the Rumor has it that the new 5G capabilities of the iPhone and a more boxer look, similar to that of the iPad Pro. An “astonishing” 53% of respondents plan to buy this year’s iPhone, according to a survey by electronics reseller Decluttr. Striking rivals, like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 2, with its folding screen, or Microsoft’s Surface Duo, with two screens sandwiched, offer new twists on the standard metal and glass smartphone construction. But most consumers will probably be gravitating towards what they know.
And even if the the new iPhone only offers a few new bells and whistles beyond a different exterior design, it will attract most of the attention. Here’s what Apple could announce on October 13.
The Apple invite, which often has a few clues, this time has an Apple logo circled in different shades of blue, orange, and red. And there is a play on words: “Hello, Speed.”
That didn’t stop people from speculating on what other mysteries might be hidden in the meaning of the invitation. Apple is also expected to announce new on-ear headphones (AirPods Studio?) during the event, prompting some people to wonder if the circles have to do with audio sounds. (Apple has removed the headphones from the competition from your store before the event).
Apple also included an augmented reality hack on its website, as it had done for last month’s event, with circles on the invitation turning into floating orbs revealing the October 13 date.
However, Apple’s star of the show is expected to be its new iPhones, replacing the $ 799 iPhone 11, the $ 999 one. iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max, which started at $ 1,099 when it launched in 2019. Pricing is expected to remain largely the same, but Apple is expected to update device features, including better cameras, faster chips, and the latest software from the company. iOS 14. There are also rumors of Apple can offer an iPhone 12 Mini, possibly in reaction to some people complaining that smartphones are not getting easier to use. What the iPhone 12 probably won’t include is a Touch ID button, like the new iPad Air.
When Apple enters the 5G market, it is expected to immediately become a big player. This year Apple will likely ship 50 million 5G iPhones, according to Strategy Analytics, which would make it the second largest 5G provider in 2020, and that would be in less than three months of sales. By comparison, Samsung shipped more than 6.7 million Galaxy 5G smartphones last year, after their first 5G phones hit the market in May.
Next year, Apple is expected to be the world’s largest provider of 5G phones, Strategy Analytics said.
A different iPhone launch
Apple hosting its event over the Internet is not the only thing that differentiates the announcement of its iPhone from those of previous years. The device will also arrive later in the year than it usually does, with analysts expecting a late October or early November launch for Apple’s newest phones. That’s roughly a month after typical iPhone launches, something Apple warned about in July when it acknowledged new smartphones would arrive. “a few weeks“later than normal.
Apple’s announcements will also overlap with Amazon rescheduled Prime Day shopping event, scheduled for October 13 and 14. Typically, that fully recovered holiday takes place in July, but this year it was rejected due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, Apple still held its annual September event, using it to announce new iPads, a new Apple Watch, and its new Apple one subscription service. The service combines its $ 5-a-month Apple TV Plus, $ 10-a-month Apple Music, $ 10-a-month Apple News Plus, and $ 5-a-month Apple Arcade.
Aside from its new iPhones, Apple’s event may be the first time the company has shown off its newest computer, powered by chips the company calls Apple Silicon.
Apple hasn’t shared many details about its newer chips, which will replace the Intel processors that Apple relied on for 14 years with processors similar to those that power its iPhones, iPads and Apple TV. Apple said it will continue to sell Intel-powered computers for now, but the company said performance improvements, battery life, and easier connections to the iPhone and iPad are driving the change.
“Hardware and software are critical to everything we do,” said Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook, announcing the effort this summer. “It will take Mac to the next level.”
Still, people are likely to be more interested in the iPhone, and for good reason. More and more analysts say they expect this year’s update, with its new design and 5G wireless technology, to generate much higher demand.
“Taking a step back, we believe that the iPhone 12 represents the most important product cycle for Cook & Co. since the iPhone 6 in 2014 and will be another defining chapter in Apple’s growth story going forward despite an environment consumer spending smoother, “Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives wrote in a note to investors shortly after Apple’s announcement was published. Ives said he expects the iPhone 12 launch to be a “once in a decade” event, with or without the coronavirus.
