Sony has announced that around 99% of its collection of more than 4,000 games will be available on the next-generation PS5 through backward compatibility. Although Sony was not saying anything about how this feature would work until now, they have now published a short FAQ blog to explain the feature to users.
With only a few weeks to go before the console’s launch, the post will definitely make it easier for PlayStation 4 users to upgrade to the next-gen PlayStation. Since Microsoft has been constantly making deals with big development studios like Bethesda and EA to expand its library of games, Sony had to respond early.
Therefore, backward compatibility is intended to ensure that PS4 users do not have to buy their favorite games again. Therefore, they will be able to access all these games on their PS5 from day one.

Additionally, players will also be able to transfer their saves from PS4. They can do this using cloud services as well as external storage via USB.
Backward compatibility will be available on both editions of the PS5. Players can access their digital copies of previously purchased games from the PlayStation Store. On the other hand, they can play their games on disc by inserting the CDs into the PS5’s Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive. Sony adds that the gaming experience on both devices will be the same.
Sony also claims that PS4 titles will be better on next-gen consoles. Loading speeds will increase along with more stable frame rates. Backward compatible titles also include a wide variety of PS VR games. However, to play these games, players will need to purchase the PS4 camera for PS4 separately.
Finally, PS4 to PS5 remote play and PS Now streaming will also be supported. The benefit of streaming is that gamers can save storage space on the PS5.
Thanks to backward compatibility, players can save hundreds and thousands of dollars while upgrading to the PS5. This will definitely influence current PS4 users to upgrade to PS5.
