Amazon has officially canceled Melting pot, your free multiplayer shooter game. It’s the end of a difficult journey for the game, which first released in May after years of development before returning to closed beta in July.
“We greatly appreciate the way our fans have rallied around our efforts and we loved seeing their responses to the changes we made in recent months, but we ultimately did not see a healthy and sustainable future ahead. [for] Melting pot,” he Melting pot the team said in a blog post.
If you are in the closed beta, you will still be able to play the game in some form for a while. The developers will host an “endgame test and community celebration” in the coming weeks, according to the blog. Once done, matchmaking will be disabled, but you will be able to play custom games (expected to be available in the next few days) until 3pm ET on November 9. The company also says that it will offer a full refund for any purchases you have made. For refunds, please follow the instructions on this site.
Melting pot developers will move to other Amazon Games titles, including The new World, Amazon’s next MMO. That game, which is currently launching in spring 2021, has had its own set of challenges, including two delays. And we are also looking forward to the release of Pac-Man Live Studio, a version of Pac-Man that you can play directly on Twitch. Amazon said in May that the game would launch in June, but it is not yet available, and the game’s website only says it is “coming soon.”
Amazon doesn’t just make games, it also has a cloud gaming service called Luna that it launched last month. US users can request early access right now. If you want to understand how Luna compares to other cloud gaming offerings, we have a guide for that here.
