Baldur’s Gate 3 creators tell players to stop being so basic

Baldur’s Gate 3 is only in early access so far, with players able to create their own character and jump into its rich fantasy world. The only problem is that developer Larian Studios has checked what kind of characters people are creating and … well, the typical result is really boring.

Larian has been patching the game with hotfixes every day, but for its last news release on Friday, the studio added an additional note in the hotfix summary:

Before we fixes, let’s share something that you created yourself (this is your fault) through your choices in character creation. We took the most popular choices in character creation and recreated them. We thought our analysis system was not working! We review it. Is.

Congratulations, you’ve basically created the default Vault Dweller. What the heck guys. We gave you demon’s eyes, horns, and even cross. We are deeply disappointed. Go mad. We work hard on this!

Unfortunately, Larian is absolutely correct in his assessment: it’s a drab slice of meatloaf. Looks like he’s ready to play Hot Dad on a CW show, or audition as another Peter Parker replacement on Spiderman.

It’s also kind of silly because, well, there are heaps of character options. Players can choose from various types of elves and tieflines, dwarves and halflings, and other fantasy races. It’s like having access to tons of spaceships and cars of the future, and choosing a four-door sedan.

There is still a lot of work until Baldur’s Gate 3 It’s a finished, polished end product, but the least we can do is create some sharp characters. I don’t know who this John Baldurgate is, but he’s too easy to go on a mind skinner adventure. Fortunately, we have guides to get you started on your adventure, hopefully with a little more flair.
