WASHINGTON, Oct.8 (Xinhua) – A new joint forecast released Thursday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention projects up to 233,000 deaths from COVID-19 in the United States by Oct.31.

The new national joint forecast predicts that 2,800 to 6,800 new COVID-19 deaths will likely be reported during the week ending October 31, with a total of 224,000 to 233,000 COVID-19 deaths reported by that date.

“Joint forecasts at the state and territory level predict that over the next 4 weeks, the number of recently reported deaths per week may decline in seven jurisdictions,” the projection said.

Trends in the number of deaths reported going forward are uncertain or expected to remain stable in the other states and territories, according to the projection.

Months after the pandemic, the United States has recorded more than 7,591,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases and more than 212,400 deaths as of Thursday night, according to the Johns Hopkins University real-time tally. Final product
