Google Adds New “High Visibility” Security Alerts

Google posted a blog Wednesday explaining how the company plans to use a new process to alert Google account subscribers when a serious security issue arises. In 2015, Android alerts were used to notify people when they had a security issue with their Google account. This notification would appear if someone’s account was, for example, hacked. With the new notifications, Google saw a 20-fold increase in the number of users who responded to them within an hour of receiving them compared to those who received news of a security issue via email.
Soon, Google says that it will launch a new security alert that will appear in any Google application that the user has opened and will help them solve a problem. These new alerts cannot be faked, so if one appears in a Google app, the user can be sure that it is genuine. This feature will be rolled out on a limited basis over the next several weeks and a wider distribution is expected to begin in early 2021.

Google also announced today that it has added a new guest mode for the Google Assistant. With guest mode, you can use a simple voice command to save your Assistant interactions elsewhere instead of on your device. You can also disable guest mode at any time to bring back the fully customized version of the Google Assistant. You can also use your voice to erase what you just said to the Google Assistant. And the latter will now instantly answer more questions about privacy and security.

Google Says: “To make it easier for you to control your privacy, you will soon be able to directly edit your Location History data on the Timeline by adding or editing places you’ve visited with just a few taps, and because Search is the point of departure. heading For so many questions, starting today we’ll show your personal privacy and security settings when you ask things like “Is my Google account safe?”

Google claims to block more than 100 million phishing attempts a day; Google Play Project scans more than 100 million applications daily for malware and other problems.
