Over the weekend, Sony updated the Godfall page on Playstation.com to reveal that Counterplay Games’ PS5 launch title requires an online connection to play, even in single-player mode.
AS VG247 reports, a cheep from the official Godfall account then confirmed that this is not a bug and that you will need an active internet connection in order to play. The game offers a single player cooperative play mode and a cooperative play mode for up to four players. If you want to play cooperatively, you will also need PS Plus.
As for why Godfall demands an internet connection all the time, it is most likely due to the style of play with the game classified as “looter-killer”. Players complete missions and receive loot in exchange, for example, desirable armor sets and weapons. The combination of loot collecting and online play means that Counterplay Games needs a way to react to cheats and hacks, and requiring an online connection enables quick action to be taken to counter hacks and ban any player from using cheats.
Godfall is a launch game for PS5 and therefore will be one of the first $ 69.99 games. If you only plan to play it for one player, $ 70 for a game that you can’t play offline might be a step too far for some players. For PC players, Godfall will be available via the Epic Games Store on the same day, November 12.
