Samsung Electronics Co. said on Monday that the budget model of its Galaxy S20 smartphone will go on sale in South Korea next week as the tech giant aims to boost its phone sales amid the pandemic.

The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE) will hit local shelves on October 16 with a price tag of 899,800 won ($ 770), according to Samsung, the world’s largest smartphone provider.

Pre-orders for the S20 FE opened Monday for local consumers, and you can receive the device starting October 13.

The S20 FE, which was unveiled on September 23, was launched globally on Friday, but on its own turf, Samsung decided to launch the device late after the Chuseok fall harvest holiday here.

The S20 FE is the fourth model in the Galaxy S20 family to debut with the entry-level S20, mid-tier S20 Plus, and high-end S20 Ultra in February.

The S20 FE features a 32 megapixel selfie camera with its tetra-binning technology to capture more vivid images. The 5G-compatible device also has a 6.5-inch Infinity-O Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 4,500 mAh battery.

In South Korea, the S20 FE comes in five colors: Cloud Red, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Navy, and Cloud White.

Meanwhile, Samsung said its new wearable device, the Galaxy Fit2, will launch in South Korea on Thursday.

The Fit2 bracelet can track various fitness functions, including calories burned, heart rate, and sleep patterns.

Samsung said the latest band can run for up to 21 days on a single charge, depending on settings and conditions. (Yonhap)
