Foldable phones are starting to get less spectacular and less novel even a year after their debut. Consumers are now focusing more on the practicality of these devices, whether they are worth the $ 1,500 to $ 2,000 prices they are asking for, especially in light of their seemingly fragile constitutions. Samsung, of course, has been praising the new Galaxy Z Fold 2’s increased durability, but there’s nothing like a JerryRigEverythng test to really bring that to light.
The first Galaxy Fold, not Z, quickly broke after two attacks. One was the flimsy plastic film that barely protected the sensitive flexible screen beneath. He also died after sand and dust easily passed through the hinges and destroyed him from the inside.
Samsung addressed those of the second iteration of the Galaxy Fold, but claims to have improved the game with the Galaxy Z Fold 2. YouTuber Zack Nelson discovers not one, but two layers of “do not remove” plastic that protect the glass. While the plastic is still scratched by fingernails, fortunately they effectively protect the screen, allowing it to continue to function despite shocks.
Even better is the new hinge that keeps sand and dirt out, preventing the phone from breaking in such an accident. The hinge is also strong enough to prevent the phone from fully bending and breaking in half. It’s not like you’ve accidentally put it in your back pocket without folding it, but accidents do happen.
Unfortunately, it’s not all good news, as the fingerprint sensor is easily damaged and spoiled by dirt, rendering your more secure biometrics practically useless. Other than that though, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 seems to at least offer more promise in this particular area, making it a better $ 2,000 investment than its predecessor.
