WTF ?! Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s install size is reportedly skyrocketing so much that it no longer fits on SSDs smaller than 250GB. Game install sizes in general have increased over the years, but even for the most insatiable games, 250GB of required disk space seems steep.
And while Call of Duty games have never been shy with their storage demands, at launch Modern Warfare had a massive 175GB install space, beating Red Dead Redemption 2’s 150GB requirement: Ravenous Appetite. Call of Duty for storage will have to be addressed at some point.
The crux of the problem, it seems, is the way Call of Duty: Modern Warfare essentially bundles three games together: the single-player campaign, the Special Ops co-op mode, and the online Battle Royale mode, Warzone.

Console players have more granular control over install sizes, being able to uninstall certain modes. However, the PC versions of the newer Call of Duty games are tied to Blizzard’s Battle.net launcher, and as Twitter and YouTube user @BattleNonSense points out, PC gamers don’t have the same options.
Further compounding the problem are routine patches that not only continue to increase the size of the game, but also force players to sit down and download patches that are often tens of gigabytes in size.
With Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War right around the corner, it will be interesting to see just how sustainable these kinds of storage needs are, and if Raven Software and Treyarch have noticed the clamor. As Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has grown in size, many users have already dedicated entire SSDs to the game.
