Roald Dahl’s classic children’s story, The Witches, will get another film adaptation, with a new trailer showcasing its all-star cast led by Hollywood star Anne Hathaway.
This latest version of the beloved fantasy tale is courtesy of director Robert Zemeckis, known for his iconic Back to the Future trilogy, Forrest Gump, and experimental family food like The Polar Express.
Ambitious visuals are often at the center of her work and we get a glimpse of it here as Hathaway transforms into the evil Grand Witch, who plans to kill the children who are staying at a posh hotel.
She transforms a boy, played by newcomer Jahzir Kadeem Bruno, into a mouse for extermination, but he hatches a plan to fight back with the help of his beloved grandmother (Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer).

Originally, The Witches was scheduled for release in theaters, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was switched to an exclusive broadcast in the US.
The film will be available starting Thursday, October 22 on HBO Max in the US, but those eagerly awaiting its UK release may need to wait a bit longer.
HBO Max has yet to launch on our shores, meaning The Witches will go ahead with a UK theatrical release, but there is uncertainty as to when it will arrive amid a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Expect Warner Bros to confirm its international release strategy for The Witches in the coming weeks, as the studio assesses the lessons learned from its recent challenges with Christopher Nolan’s Tenet.
The Witches was previously adapted for the big screen in 1990, in a cult favorite family film of the same name starring Anjelica Huston as the main antagonist.
