Apple recently introduced new iPad and Apple Watch models, but attention is already turning to the inevitable iPhone 12 5G announcement in October. Thanks to tipster Jon prosser, more information is now available on those plans.
The iPhone 12 event could be announced next week
In August it was revealed that Apple had scheduled the unveiling of the iPhone 12 5G for the week beginning October 12. Recent reports have been more specific with Tuesday October 13 as the exact date. Prosser today corroborated those reports by saying In fact, Apple will hold the announcement event on October 13. He also says that the company is likely to confirm those plans next Tuesday, October 6.
Apple typically gives 10-12 days’ notice for major product launch events, so the press and others have time to organize flights and hotels. Any other year that leads to invitations being sent out as early as this Thursday.

But due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and like the recent events of September 2020 and WWDC 2020, the announcement of the iPhone 12 5G will be fully prerecorded, so a one week notice is sufficient.
First shipment of iPhone 12 will hit dealers on Monday
The public may still have a two-week wait until preparations for the iPhone 12 launch publicly begin, but behind the scenes, everything is underway. According to Prosser, the first shipment of iPhone 12 units will leave the factories next Monday, October 5.
The shipment reportedly contains the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12. Those devices feature dual-camera setups on the rear, just like the iPhone 11, and OLED displays with thinner bezels.
Buyers can also expect to find the recently announced A14 Bionic chipset inside along with a Lightning connector and the usual 64GB of internal storage as standard. As usual, the 128GB and 256GB models are in the works.

The 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max, on the other hand, will not ship to dealers next week. They are still overdue and Prosser has reiterated his previous claims of a November release.
Also welcome updates are on the way in the RAM and storage departments. While the standard iPhone 12 comes in a 4/64 GB configuration as standard, premium iPhone 12 Pro models will benefit from a 6/128 GB option. If that amount of storage isn’t enough, Apple is also preparing 256GB and 512GB variants.
However, one thing that seems highly unlikely at the moment is support for a ProMotion refresh rate of 120Hz.

Pricing information is still up in the air at this time, although final prices must be within the following ranges for each device in its standard configuration:
- Apple iPhone 12 Mini – $ 649-699
- Apple iPhone 12 – $ 749-799
- Apple iPhone 12 Pro – $ 999-1,049
- Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max – $ 1,099-1,149
Later storage options should cost an additional $ 100 with the sole exception of the 128GB version of the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini, which will likely be available for an additional $ 50.
