ADDIS ABABA, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) – The total number of confirmed COVID-19 positive cases in Africa reached 1,444,318 as of Saturday and the death toll crossed the 35,000 mark, according to the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Disease Prevention (CDC Africa) said.
The continental disease control and prevention agency said in a statement that the death toll from COVID-19-related illnesses in Africa had reached 35,144 as of Saturday afternoon.
Africa’s CDC also said the number of people who have recovered from the infectious virus across the continent so far reached 1,192,653.
Amid the uneven impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in African countries, the African CDC said that the African countries most affected by COVID-19 in terms of number of positive cases include South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, Ethiopia and Nigeria.
The Southern Africa region is the region most affected by COVID-19 both in terms of the number of confirmed positive cases and the number of deaths, it was noted.
