Those who opted to pre-order their Xbox Series X from Amazon may have a bit of a rude awakening.
Buyers received an email from the online retailer on Friday notifying them that their consoles may, in fact, arrive after the system’s official launch date of November 10.
“We are contacting you regarding your Xbox Series X order to inform you in advance that you may not receive this item on release day due to high demand,” the email read.

“We are doing our best with the vendor to acquire more inventory. We will provide additional updates once more information is available.”
PCMag can verify the receipt of these emails, although there has been no evidence of canceled pre-orders or anything of that nature yet. There is also no information on how many customers will be affected by this potential setback. Amazon has not indicated if this is a general supply issue that it warns all customers about or if only a few buyers have received the email as a precautionary measure.
The Xbox Series X isn’t the first console release to which Amazon has submitted an advance disclaimer. The e-commerce giant followed suit with a similar warning for those who pre-ordered PlayStation 5 systems. With that warning, however, Amazon did not take note that it was working to “acquire more inventory.”
In terms of pre-orders for next-gen consoles, the launch of the PS5 was nothing short of a disaster. As the systems were apparently scattered for sale, buyers were left in the cold by losing systems to resellers, bots, and website malfunction.
Although Microsoft mercilessly mocked Sony initially, assuring customers that there would be a specific time when they could expect to be able to purchase their systems, the same issues happened to the Xbox Series X maker. When pre-orders went live the On the morning of September 22, shoppers were rarely able to add the systems to their carts or get a successful registration.
Sony apologized for the problems and made plans to make additional systems available at sporadic times before the launch of the PS5. Microsoft skipped the “sorry” and only confirmed that more Xbox Series X systems would be available on launch day, November 10.
Given Amazon’s warning that the Xbox Series X may arrive later than the launch date, it may be wise to shop around for a system on launch day if it is important to you to have it on time. Microsoft hasn’t announced how many stocks will be available that day, but if the past is anything to go through, the Xbox Series X will be as scarce as it was at the end of September.
Currently, it is also not known if production will increase when we enter the Christmas season.
