Ukrainian authorities blame An-26 plane crash on malfunction and human error

KIEV, September 26 / TASS /. Ukraine’s National Bureau of Investigation has named four probable causes of the crash of the An-26 military transport plane in the northeast Kharkov region on Friday.

Investigators are testing such theories: the accident due to a technical malfunction of the aircraft system, the accident due to the negligence of the crew in the performance of their duties, the negligence of the people who were responsible for controlling the flights and negligence during the technical maintenance of the plane and its preparations for the flight, “said the press service.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Andrei Taran suggested that the plane’s wing could have hit the ground.

An An-26 military transport plane crashed in the Chuguyev district of the Kharkov region in northeastern Ukraine during a landing late on September 25. A total of 27 people were on board the plane. Apart from the crew, the plane had cadets from the Ivan Kozhedub National Air Force University on board and was conducting a training flight. Two cadets jumped from the plane and were hospitalized in serious condition. Later, one of them died, bringing the death toll in the tragedy to 26. A criminal case was initiated for violation of flight safety regulations.

Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky, who arrived at the crash site, declared September 26 a national day of mourning for the accident victims.
