Amazon has unveiled its latest Fire TV Stick, a new Fire TV Stick Lite, and a revamped Fire TV experience that the company says is more personal and personalized.
The next-generation Fire TV Stick, priced at $ 39.99, features an improved 1.7GHz quad-core processor, which Amazon says makes it 50 percent more powerful than the previous generation. The system offers streaming in 1080p at 60fps with HDR compatibility, while dual-band Wi-Fi and antenna supports 5 GHz networks. The new device also features Dolby Atmos for surround sound with compatible content and speakers, and a Alexa voice remote control. Finally, the device consumes 50 percent less energy than the previous generation.
The new Fire TV Stick Lite is a more affordable version of the traditional stick. It costs $ 29.99 but still offers Full HD streaming. The device is also 50 percent more powerful than previous-generation Fire TV devices, has HDR support, and comes with the new Alexa Voice Remote Lite.
Fire TV’s new personalized experience means a more intuitive, simple and personalized experience, Amazon explained. The main menu is in the center of the screen for easy content search, and users can now also directly access their favorite streaming service or scroll through compatible applications to quickly search and start streaming. The new Search experience makes it easy to search for content, with broad and specific searches based on gender, among other things.
Enhanced voice controls with Alexa
Amazon added that it improved voice controls with Alexa, giving you the power to “go live,” jump to the live TV guide, or go to Search. Fire TV also expanded to offer personalized experiences for up to six members in one household. Finally, there is an exclusive Alexa Explore destination, which shows popular Alexa features and can help people discover new recipes, view stock, or other content. Users can also view and control connected smart devices in their home and multitask while viewing a picture-in-picture feed from the Ring security camera.
Additionally, the Fire TV Cube can be used for video calling with Alexa. Customers who connect a compatible Logitech webcam will be able to stay in touch with friends and family on their television.
Pre-orders have started
Alexa video calling will be available later this year, while other services like Zoom will be added over time. The redesigned Fire TV experience will begin rolling out globally later this year, starting with the new Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite.
Pre-orders for the Fire TV Stick have started in Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The device will begin shipping next week.
