- Samsung will bring its TV Plus app to select Galaxy phones on September 23.
- The Android app offers the same access to free TV shows and movies, including children’s shows.
- You will need at least a Galaxy S10 or Note 10 to start looking.
You no longer need one of Samsung’s TVs to take advantage of their free TV service. Samsung will release an Android version of its TV Plus app for select Galaxy phones on September 23 via the Galaxy Store and Google Play.
As on the big screen, the mobile app will offer “hundreds” of hours of free on-demand TV shows and movies from 135 channels, including Samsung’s CBSN, Cheddar and The Movie Hub. Parents will be happy to know that there are nine dedicated channels for kids. Many of the titles are old or niche (like Thelma and Louise or Gordon Ramsay Nightmares in the kitchen), but they can do the trick if you’re not sure what to look at.
However, you will need a high-end phone to start looking. Samsung is limiting TV Plus to variants of the Galaxy S10, Note 10, S20, and Note 20. So its more affordable phone won’t qualify.

Samsung introduced TV Plus in 2015, but it has grown in prominence during the pandemic as people struggle to see things during the lockdown without adding another subscription to their monthly bills. The service has generally received publicity.
The company didn’t say why it was just rolling out a mobile app now, but it’s hard to ignore the timing. With normal life probably on hold for a while longer, a free mobile TV app could keep you entertained even if you’ve exhausted your queues on paid services. Of course, it is also an aid to Samsung’s results. You’re more likely to buy a Samsung phone or TV if you know you’ll have a ton of free videos waiting, even if they’re not as recent as the latest Amazon original or Netflix.
