The Head of the Payroll Department of the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Bida, State of Niger, Sadiq Sadiq, has been tried before the Honorable Abdullahi Mika’ilu of the High Court 4 of Minna by the Independent Commission on Corrupt Practices and Other Crimes Related (ICPC), for allegedly inserting names of three ghost workers on the payroll of the Medical Center.
In a statement issued and signed by the commission’s spokesperson, Ms. Azuka Ogugua, and made available to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, the Head of Internal Audit, Awesu Bababida, and one Ihuoma Mirian, a staff member of the center were also prosecuted with Sadiq in Minna.
On a three-count count, the statement said, the court was briefed on how the trio conspired to use the names of the ghost workers and distributed money in the amount of N17,517,967.34k for personal use, knowing full well that the three names never existed.

He also said that they were also accused of using their position to confer a corrupt advantage. Their offenses are contrary to articles 19 and 26 (1) (c) and punishable under article 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Act 2000.
The Charge says in part; “That you Sadiq A. Sadiq (M), Awesu M. Bababida (M) and Ihuoma Mirian (F) are civil servants of the Payroll Department and Audit Unit of the Bida Federal Medical Center, State of Niger sometime in October, 2015 to July 2016 or somewhere else within the jurisdiction of the Honorable Court did conspire among you: namely: insert names of three ghost workers on the payroll of the Federal Medical Center, Bida.
All of the defendants pleaded “not guilty” when the charges against them were read to them.
The defendant’s attorney therefore, through a written request, prayed to the court to grant his clients bail, to which the prosecutor did not object.
Judge Mika’ilu granted the defendants bail in the amount of N5 million each. They were also ordered to individually provide two bonds with proof of land ownership worth N5 million each within the jurisdiction of the court, in addition to surrendering their travel documents.
The matter was postponed until October 6, 2020, for the start of the hearing.
