First person shooter game fans rejoice, Activision is poised to launch another entry into the Call of Duty series, and take us back to the era of the Cold War.
Call of Duty: Cold War is a sequel to call of Duty Black Ops and you will see familiar faces return to the franchise. Mainly fan favorite Alex Mason.
While the single-player story will offer a unique element to choose your path, leading to multiple endings, multiplayer is what we are all looking forward to, and I was able to play it for three hours.
The multiplayer game feels refined but slow.
What I mean by slower is that it’s harder to kill people. different to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, where it requires you to be fast on the wrist and have pinpoint precision, Cold War is more tactical and requires you to be patient.
Run and shoot tactics might not work very well here unless, of course, you are one of those who runs with a shotgun as they glide around the place. I don’t prefer this style of play, but when you do manage to take down the enemy it feels satisfying.
They also eliminated the tactical sprint of Modern war. Instead, they added a burst of speed when you start running, then slow down to normal running speed. However, the shots feel solid and teamwork will help lead your team to victory.
Refreshing and unique game modes.
During my playtest, Activision made us play a game mode called VIP Escort. One person from your team will be the designated VIP, and the rest of the team will accompany the VIP to one of the two extraction helicopters.
The opposing team’s job is to kill the VIP before extraction or wait for the time to run out. However, killing a player will put him in a descending state and the other team members can revive him.
I enjoyed this game mode because it requires maximum coordination. I found that if one person in your team of six plays a sniper, it would be extremely helpful to take out the enemy or spot him so that the information can be passed on to the other members.
Combine Arms is a more restricted and refined ground warfare.
If you ever played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Ground War game mode, where it’s total chaos, Cold War assume it is much smaller and more confined. I like this game mode for the fewest number of players. You will be able to sneak behind enemy lines and capture the points easily.
We play on a map that took place in the middle of the ocean. There are wrecked boats scattered around, and we had to swim to the spots or drive a jet ski.
I had a lot of fun sneaking up on an enemy and taking them out while thinking they were safe behind cover.
It may have the same name, but it feels different.
Activision has done an excellent job distinguishing Modern war and Black ops (now known as Cold War) Serie. Although I still prefer the former, I think Cold War you will find a place for those who like a slower and more organized game.
The addition of a multi-choice story mode is also a huge improvement because it gives the game playability, especially for those who are not interested in multiplayer.
Call of Duty: Cold War It will be released on November 13, 2020 on current and next-gen PCs and consoles.
