Crysis Remastered has just been shown again, with developer Crytek posting a new ‘tech breakthrough’ video on YouTube showing the game running at 8K resolution with some truly impressive results.
Naturally, this is all part of Crytek’s push to persuade fans that the next remaster will look suitably glorious, after backlash to previously leaked in-game footage caused the game to be delayed and renewed.
The results look suitably impressive in all respects, as you can imagine, particularly when the Nanosuit is shown in the clip, not to mention the aircraft carrier scene where the lightning-traced reflections and pouring rain seem particularly atmospheric. The video also shows the original Crysis footage for comparison (and they still look pretty decent in all honesty).
There’s certainly a lot to look forward to for PC gamers with this 8K footage, and we can get a glimpse of 8K in maximum detail as well (known as the ‘Can you run Crysis?’ Mode). And presumably 8K with that particular graphics setting will give even the most powerful gaming PC a headache.
Test times for the RTX 3090?
It will certainly be interesting to see how the RTX 3090 will cope with the strain, as Nvidia is plugging in this graphics card as the 8K queen.
Here at TechRadar, we are always eager to run new games at your pace at 8K resolution to see how they fare, so we will definitely do that with Crysis Remastered. Stay tuned for the results.
Of course, if you are considering 8K gaming, remember that you need not only a powerful PC, but also an 8K screen. And given the cost of making 8K work, it will remain a niche prospect for now, although in all likelihood Crysis Remastered in 4K will likely look almost as good.
Crysis Remastered is out on September 18, in a couple of days, on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
