Sony has announced the A7C, priced at $ 1,798, a new compact mirrorless camera that boasts many of the specifications of the Sony A7 III.
Inside the Sony A7C is a 24.2 megapixel Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor, which together with Sony’s BIONZ X image processor provides up to 15 stops of dynamic range.
A fast hybrid AF system offers 693 phase detection points and 425 contrast detection areas. The Sony A7C AF system also supports Eye AF and Real-time Tracking AF technologies.
The Sony A7C also supports H.264 / XAVC S 4: 2: 0 8-bit 4K UHD video recording at up to 30p and Full HD recording up to 120p for slow motion movies.
Additionally, users can use the same S-Log2 gamma curve found in high-end Sony Cinema cameras that squeezes up to 1,300% more dynamic range into the video signal than traditional REC709, for greater post-production flexibility. .
HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) support is also available for HDR recording within a wide color gamut and, in addition to S-Log2, S-Log3 is also available to produce an effective 14-stop dynamic range with greater control gradation in the shadow to midtone regions of the image.
The Sony A7C also features 5-axis in-body image stabilization, which compensates for up to five stops of movement.
Other features include 10fps burst shooting and a native sensitivity range of ISO 50 to 204,800.
Thinner than other Sony A7-series camera bodies, the A7C is narrower with an offset viewfinder and a streamlined top plate. Sony has relocated the electronic viewfinder, which provides a resolution of 2.36 million dots. Sony’s new camera also features a 3-inch 921.6k-dot vari-angle touchscreen LCD.
The Sony A7C also incorporates WiFi and Bluetooth capability, and Sony says its battery is capable of 740 shots per charge with the LCD screen or 680 with the EVF.
