With the clock ticking until Apple’s official virtual event on Tuesday, the last-minute leaks of this year’s iPhone generation continue to pour in. Not all of them are encouraging though, like the news about the expected 120Hz refresh rate on the iPhone 12. Pro. Moving to the other side of the spectrum, however, a new leak now apparently confirms other debated details about the Pro iPhones. , placing a LiDAR sensor on the back of the smaller 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro.
Apple’s first LiDAR sensor debuted on the iPad Pro when it probably would have made the most sense on an iPhone first. LiDAR can be used for both enhanced AR and enhanced plain photography, something that is more suitable for a more portable handheld device like an iPhone. Naturally, it has been speculated that Apple will bring that technology to iPhones as well, starting with the iPhone 12.
There have been multiple rumors and leaks about LiDAR on iPhone 12 Pro models, but so far they have focused on the larger 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max. However, a new leak showing what the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro chassis is supposed to be suggests that it might be a family trait after all.
The short video clip also draws attention to some not yet identified cutout that may be for a smart connector or the 5G antenna. More revealing, however, is the relocation of the SIM tray to the bottom of the device along the now flatter edges of the phone. If not for the camera bump, this could have easily been mistaken for an older or older iPhone 5.
Along with the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro is expected to be announced alongside a 6.1-inch non-Pro iPhone 12 and a standard 5.4-inch iPhone 12 model. There is still some uncertainty about the actual availability of these phones, and rumors indicate that the iPhone 12 Pro duo dates back to late October or even November.
