Barcelona should try to sign Dayot Upamecano in the future
Lionel Messi must overcome the transfer saga to succeed at Barcelona.
Lionel Messi was the talk of the football world when he decided to leave the club of his childhood to seek new challenges. The Argentine’s decision came after an 8-2 humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich in last season’s UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. Barcelona had hit rock bottom that day and a devastated image of Messi leaked into the locker room.

Within a few weeks, the Barcelona board appointed a new coach, Ronald Koeman, to replace Quique Setien. Apparently, there was a meeting between the Argentine legend and the Dutch coach, and things turned ugly very quickly. The 31-year-old made an official request for the cancellation of his contract, but the club was stubborn and kept pointing out that since the season ended, the clause that Messi could leave for free is no longer upheld.
After almost a month of speculation and several clubs linked to the superstar, among which Manchester City stands out, Messi decided to stay at the club for another year and fulfill his contract. Many fans are delighted that their best player is staying with them for at least one more year, while many fans are quite disappointed in the way the club’s board and president treated their most loyal player.
As for Koeman, he has been given a lifeline, as having the Argentine on any team means the team will flourish. The Dutch manager already has a lot of pressure on his shoulders and the last thing he would need is for the club legend to leave. Koeman in an interview with BarcaTV + said:
“He’s the best, I’ve said it many times. Messi is a very important player and has shown it for many years. I hope I can do it again this season. “

The club is already in a terrible state and the last thing they need is their disgruntled and unmotivated captain and leader. Koeman gets it too, and so while the former Everton coach is trying to inject new blood into the starting lineup, he must also motivate the already established veteran players of the squad. This will certainly be an interesting season for the club and we must wait and see if Koeman can help Barcelona return to the main stage with the other European elites.
