Bandai Namco is getting into the action of location-based mobile gaming, reaching into its well of nostalgia to grace the world with the free Pac-Man Geo.
Pac-Man Geo, as the name suggests, takes the classic labyrinth wandering action from the legendary arcade series and combines it with the new but real-world video game premise popularized by the likes of Pokémon Go.
And while that may not immediately seem like the most natural combination, Bandai Namco’s announcement at least suggests there’s a germ of a decent idea here, with Pac-Man Geo aiming to deliver the familiar maze-like action of swallowing pellets. of the series, although at all levels. extracted from Google Maps road data.
Players can use pre-made levels or create their own, and in the latter case, once a map size has been specified, the app transforms nearby streets into a maze filled with marbles.
As for what happens next, it is not entirely Sure, given the limited nature of Bandai Namco’s announcement, but the resulting stages seem to play out just like any regular Pac-Man high-score chase game, complete with ghosts, plus some collectible benchmarks included, with no real- Worldwide roaming required. The publisher even claims that Pac-Man Geo can be played “from the comfort of home.”
Pac-Man Geo will be a free game with in-app purchases and will launch on iOS and Android sometime this month in 170 countries.
