(Pocket-lint) – Huawei’s AppGallery platform is certainly going live in 2020: the app store has announced a large number of partners and has a record number of developers creating new apps for the platform.
The AppGallery has welcomed brands like TomTom, Bolt, Emirates, Sberbank and Kumu to the store this year, with more than 1.8 million developers globally now part of the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) ecosystem. Huawei is committed to building a trustworthy, fair and open mobile ecosystem to provide a diversified and innovative experience for users.
So far, more than 96,000 applications have been integrated with HMS Core worldwide.
AppGallery has had a record number of users during 2020 – a staggering 490 million in more than 170 countries and regions. In the first half of 2020, user app downloads reached 261 billion and it is now clearly one of the top three mobile ecosystems.
During a keynote address at the Huawei Developer Conference 2020, Wang Yanmin, President of Global Alliances and Ecodevelopment at Huawei Consumer Business Group, highlighted the achievements of AppGallery 2020:
“Despite growing challenges, AppGallery and the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) ecosystem have continued to show progress this year, all thanks to our global partners.
“With this strong support and recognition, we will continue to invest in the ecosystem as we build one of the world’s top three application delivery platforms. We are confident that as we continue to work closely with our partners, we can help them grow and achieve their business objectives, especially for those locally popular names looking to expand into other global markets, “said Wang Yanmin.
Global + local approach
AppGallery’s great ongoing focus revolves around a ‘glocal’ (global + local) approach, serving the diverse needs of users in different countries and regions. Although this Huawei can provide users with relevant applications and services, focusing on popular local applications.
For example, in the Middle East and Africa, the local messaging app Imo and Noon Shopping are available from the AppGallery. In Europe, the BBVA bank and the online shopping application Allegro are newcomers to AppGallery.
Partners like Bolt, Deezer, Foodpanda, TomTom Go Navigation, Line, Qwant, and Telegram have joined AppGallery with this approach, making things more convenient for users. In Latin America, the Bancolombia bank and the leading e-commerce market Linio are on the platform. In Asia Pacific, the popular travel booking app Agoda and Lazada e-commerce sites are on AppGallery.
Russia’s largest bank Sberbank has partnered with AppGallery to launch its own HMS-backed contactless payment service. In 11 days, more than 21 million users downloaded the application.
Grabjobs, a leading recruiting platform in Asia, is using their app for in-app interviewing and recruiting. In addition, there are 3D facial recognition payments through PayBy, compatible with Huawei’s security kit.
How Huawei is helping AppGallery developers
Huawei is also helping developers get more exposure for their new apps. Navigation leader TomTom has its two popular TomTom Go Navigation and TomTom AmiGO navigation apps on the AppGallery and had a 22x increase in downloads.
The transport and companion app Bolt saw a 136-fold increase in downloads in European and African downloads from week one to week 13.
Huawei also has extensive support to help developers explore business opportunities in China and other global markets by providing relevant consulting, localization and integration, marketing and campaigning services.
A spokesperson for the new partner Emirates said: “It is my pleasure to build a partnership with Huawei to provide the best possible customer experience … The engaging tools that are available in the Huawei AppGallery can help us build closer ties and experiences with more customers. especially in China, which is an important market for us.
“The next phase of our collaboration will be implemented soon and aims to benefit passengers at every step of their journey, from trip planning to reaching their destination.” Since last year, Huawei has helped more than 700 partners enter the Chinese market.
Huawei also says it is building three global ecosystem cooperation labs in Russia, Poland, and Germany to help test, certify and enable a growing number of applications. There will also be five global developer service centers in Romania, Malaysia, Egypt, Mexico and Russia.
Huawei says it will always welcome global developers to join the HMS ecosystem to bring a better and smarter application experience to global and local consumers.
