Nintendo has reportedly started asking developers to make 4K-ready games, suggesting the possibility of a more powerful version of the Nintendo Switch.
A new Bloomberg Nintendo’s production increase report included a brief, but revealing, mention that the Nintendo Switch update is more than just a rumor. “Nintendo is making preparations for an updated Switch model and a beefed-up game lineup for 2021,” an excerpt from the report reads.
The report went on to say: “Several third-party game developers, speaking anonymously as the issue is private, said that Nintendo had asked them to prepare their games for 4K, suggesting that a resolution update is on the way.”
Rumors of a “pro” version of the Nintendo Switch have been floating around the internet since the Switch Lite was announced in 2019, but they picked up steam again in August when Taiwan Daily economic news reported that a new version of the Switch will arrive in the first quarter of 2021. It will reportedly feature a better screen and be “more interactive.”
The rest of the Bloomberg reports also noted that Nintendo has increased production of the Switch console by 20 percent. The company has reportedly increased its production target from 25 million units this fiscal year to 30 million to meet consumer demands.
The Switch has already seen a boost in sales in 2020 thanks to the success of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as well as the general increase in demand for game consoles due to quarantines inflicted by the coronavirus.
In other Nintendo Switch news, a new The legend of Zelda game called Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity has been announced. The game, which will serve as a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, is scheduled to launch on November 20.
