In a galaxy far, far away …
Last month the Sims team announced their latest game pack, The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu.

The game is more or less exactly what it sounds like: a Star Wars–Themed game pack where you can visit the world of Batuu, the same world on which Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge is based. It’s definitely the first time Sims, and the players have been quite divided about it.
I played the game early and was able to let my own Sim explore Batuu. Here is an overview of the package and my thoughts:
Let me tell you from the beginning: I am not a Star Wars expert in any way. I mean, I’ve seen the movies, but I’m not deeply absorbed in the fandom. So, tbh, navigating this game was a challenge for me.
One thing I’ll say from the start, the game itself is wonderful. Like, I’d be very willing to quarantine here.
Batuu is a vacation world, which means you have to travel there by phone call. There are three main areas of Batuu: Black Spire Outpost, First Order District, and Resistance Camp. Black Spire Outpost is the main hub where you can get food, drinks, and gear, so let’s start there.
Before starting any quest or deciding which side I want my character to join, I’m going to explore a bit. Let’s take a look at this restaurant!
I have to be honest, I feel a little out of place in this bar.
Okay, I’m going to try to start a mission now. Uhhh, I guess I’ll join the First Order. Apparently my first task is to spread propaganda.
This task is not going so well for me so far.

I’m getting a little bored with the mission, so I think I’ll go explore for a bit. There are some really cool things to see, like Droid Depot and Savi’s Workshop.
I also traveled to the Resistance Camp. It’s really pretty, but honestly there isn’t … much to do there. I’ve spent most of my time at Black Spire Outpost or the First Order District.
So after playing for a few hours, I think I have reached a verdict. As your unofficial Sims ™ expert ️, here’s what I think the game does well, and here’s what I’m not very excited about:
Good: Graphics and architecture are * chef’s kiss *.

Like I said before, the game is really MAGNIFICENT. You can definitely tell that they went to great lengths on the level of detail here.
Meh: It can be confusing to navigate, especially if you are not yet a great Star Wars fan.

It could just be me, but I was very frustrated completing tasks. There is a lot to get used to, like using the galactic currency and having to travel Everywhere in Batuu by phone.
Good: The characters are fun to interact with and there aren’t too many burrows.

It definitely feels like you’re in the Star Wars galaxy. I had fun talking to Stormtroopers, ordering food straight from Galaxy’s Edge, and sitting down for a drink with various alien creatures. My only criticism here is that you can’t get in the pilot’s seat when flying boats.
Meh: There aren’t many new features outside of Batuu.

There is a new one Star Wars Aspiration and some new outfits and hairstyles, but no new traits. You can take stuffed Porg lightsabers and souvenirs home with you and there is some great new furniture, but for the most part this is purely a vacation package. If you are looking for something that changes the day to day of your Sims at home, this is not it.
My general opinion: the package is a fun concept, but it doesn’t really seem The Sims. If you like Star Wars or just looking to try something totally different, you will probably enjoy Travel to Batuu. If you are like me and you enjoy playing Sims For families and stories, it may not be your cup of tea.
