Microsoft made its Xbox Series S console official today after a series of leaks surfaced overnight. Now, the company is confirming that the new $ 299 console will arrive on November 10. That’s the same date the Xbox Series X is rumored to be released today. The trailer was also leaked today, confirming support for up to 120fps at 1440p, ray tracing, and a 512GB SSD.
Microsoft has yet to confirm full specs for the Xbox Series S, but the cheapest (and smallest) console is designed to target 1440p games with around 4 teraflops of performance. We understand that the Xbox Series S will share the same CPU as the Xbox Series X, making it a surprisingly cheap entry point for next-gen games later this year.
We’ll need to learn a lot more about the graphics performance of the Xbox Series S, but the only obvious and immediate hardware downside is the 512GB storage. This could be a challenge for some, especially since modern games regularly exceed the 100GB mark. Microsoft is likely to counteract this with smaller assets on the game download, and the Xbox Series S is likely to include the same removable storage port found on the larger Xbox Series X. Microsoft is not using a disc drive in the Xbox Series S, so storage expansion will be a must.
Microsoft promises more information on the Xbox Series S soon, so it won’t be long until we know a lot more about Microsoft’s next-gen little Xbox console.
