By now you would know that the remastered versions of Tony Hawk’s 1 + 2 pro skater It’s already gone, and by most accounts it’s a faithful recreation of the classic games, but more engaging than ever.
That’s cool and all, but sometimes that’s not enough, right? If you’re going to remaster something, you should take the opportunity to improve it and make it better with new features that were not possible when they were first released in 1999 and 2000.
In fact, we could think of 5 exciting ways that they could have made the game more suitable for modern audiences.
# 1. Virtual reality mode
Virtual reality didn’t exist in 1999, but it is now. So it is quite disappointing that a new VR mode has not been included for the game.
Imagine rolling down the school levels and looking around for tables, chairs, and trees. Wouldn’t it be exciting to hit those massive ramps and then get dizzy turning a 900?
Sure the jumping tricks would be pretty boring unless you look at your feet like a grunge guitarist, but it’s a small price to pay to enjoy VR skating!
# 2. Time control powers
The original THPS 1 + 2 came out a year or two earlier Max payne made bullet time a beloved game mechanic, so it’s understandable that the time-control powers weren’t implemented at the time.
But now it’s 2020, so all games are expected to give you the power to at least stop time. Imagine you are in the middle of the race, then you can freeze time and then look around to see which set of stairs or rail to manually move to the next.

It’s like a pause screen, except without the menu buttons getting in the way. Or maybe as a photo mode, except adjusting the camera view is not allowed.
# 3. Shotguns
Since then Condemn was released in 1993, the shotgun is a basic weapon in all FPS. Of aura to Grand Theft Auto, shotguns make games better.
Which is why it’s surprising that Vicarious Visions chose not to include shotguns in the remake. It would have been a great addition to the game if Rodney Mullen could pull out a 12 gauge in the middle of a casper slide and then fire an explosive barrel to ride the blast wave over a 20-step gap.
# 4. Skate Royale
If you have played Tony Hawk’s 1 + 2 pro skater As much as we’ve done in the past, you’re probably tired of playing SKATE or Score Attack for the trillionth time.
Instead, imagine a mode where 20 skaters enter a level and try to outmaneuver the others with big combos. Here’s the catch: the level gets smaller and smaller over time. Therefore, skaters have to fight to use the ramps and rails.
At the end of the round, it would be impossible to do a simple kickfip without hitting another skater. How cool is that?!?
# 5. An emotional story mode
The series began making story modes with Tony Hawk’s Underground, but the expectations of the players have changed since then. A cheesy story about a young skater trying to succeed is no longer compelling enough, so now you need something bigger.
People want something emotional, seriously. Something written by an award-winning Hollywood screenwriter, or that guy who doubled as the face of Max Payne. Something that will make us cry, think about society and question our own existence for hours after turning off the game.

You need a story that has heartbreaking decisions, like:
- Decide to save the life of everyone in a small fishing village or your best friend.
- Choose which colors best represent the end of humanity at the hands of the alien machines.
- Kill zombie girls to extract magic juice or not have enough magic juice.
You must get away from the superficial environment of skate culture and delve into what it means to be human.
Tony Hawk’s 1 + 2 pro skater It should be a young skater’s quest to avenge his adopted brother who was killed after uncovering a conspiracy to smuggle weapons into a developing country in Southeast Asia. That would be great.
Final thoughts
In case you’re not sure, this article is 100% sarcasm. The remake of Tony Hawk’s 1 + 2 pro skater it works because they didn’t play with the magic that made the originals so beloved. Adding too many new and modern features destroys the nostalgia trip.
Think about it: Gamers want remasters of old games because they want something different from current games, right? So give them what they were looking for.
