The Streets of Rage franchise was one of the most beloved and recognizable in the early ’90s, and the side-scrolling beat’ em up represent some of the best games on SEGA Mega Drive. However, from the mid-90s, the series experienced a prolonged hiatus, finally broken by the release of Street of Rage 4 in 2020. Now it seems that the revival is working well for the franchise, as Streets of Rage 4 has officially sold out. more than 1.5 million copies.
Announced alongside the latest patch notes for the game, it was revealed that the game sold over 1.5 million copies, with executive producer Cyrille Imbert saying: “We couldn’t be happier with the reception of Streets of Rage 4. We appreciate it. to fans who have supported the game since day one: Many of the updates in the patch improve replay value for people who have been with us since the beginning, “promising that” there are additional updates currently in production and we will have more to share on that soon. “
Streets of Rage 4 was released in late April, which means that the feat was accomplished in just over 4 months, certainly an impressive achievement for a title in a genre that is no longer as broad as before. This was certainly helped by their warm reception, with the game receiving a respectable 82 on Metacritic.
With the success of Street of Rage 4, hopefully fans won’t have to wait another 25 years for the series to receive a fifth entry.
